Wild West Day

We love to do “theme days” when we can. A few weeks ago the kids were out of school and we had no special vacation planned, so we decided to surprise them with a “Wild West Theme Day.” It was so much fun! I bought all of the kids their very first cap guns (hey, we have lots of girls, okay?). They had so much fun using them. They came with lone ranger masks and sheriff badges. I also bought a pair of handcuffs so we could really get into the role-play of it. We had stew, rolls and beef jerky for lunch, watched “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” had a train heist (with a fisher price train full of gold foil-covered chocolate coins) and a bank robbery. I made a poster with some of the big names of the lawmen and outlaws of the day complete with bios on lots of them that the kids could read up on. There was a “WANTED” poster up on the fridge of my husband. I told them we needed to watch out for that guy when he got home from work! We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows at the end of the day in the backyard. Whew! What a day!
