Yesterday I made homemade applesauce from Ina Garten’s (aka “The Barefoot Contessa”) recipe. It was very easy to make. As it baked, it filled up the house with a delicious aroma. I love that this recipe combines sour and sweet apples making for just the right balance of flavors. I whipped it in the blender right after it was done baking to make it extra smooth. I served it hot with whipped cream, and it just melted right in. Delicious! So comforting and cozy as it was cold outside. We had it again today for an afternoon snack, and it was so good cold, too. Such a sweet and savory treat. Autumn in every bite! Recipe here.

Monday, November 1st, 2010A Camping Party
Sunday, October 31st, 2010My daughter wanted a camping party for her birthday this year. Her birthday is close to Halloween, so we added a few Halloween details. The guests were welcomed by a “camping buffet” which consisted of hot dogs, of course, and other meal items. They took their plates out to the big tent my husband so kindly set up in the backyard. When finished with the meal, they made “mini-s’mores”: Roast one mini-marshmallow on a toothpick over a candle. Place roasted marshmallow between two Golden Grahams cereal squares and add a chocolate chip. They really enjoyed that part! Soon it was time for the birthday girl to blow out her candles on her giant s’more cake. Then it was back to the tent for hot cocoa and a movie: Wallace and Grommit’s The Wrong Trousers. A microwave s’more kit was given to each as a party favor. What fun! (click on any of the images to view larger.)

Mother’s Day Gifts
Tuesday, May 11th, 2010Lately I have been looking into my family history and it has been so interesting. Some of my ancestors were absolutely fearless and very inspiring. So…I decided to make my mom and my mother-in-law these little pictures that represent their mothers as far back as our family history records show. I framed them and on the back of the frames I attached their full names, birth dates and death dates. Kinda fun. Mother’s Day was so fun. Hope you all had a nice one!
